We’re exactly one week out from Wale’s fourth solo release, the Seinfeld-inspired—and co-starred–The Album About Nothing. In anticipation of the album dropping on March 31, the DMV emcee has released the third and final version of the album’s cover art (the first was featured here).
The black and white drawing features Wale in the familiar booth from the sitcom’s Monk’s Café appearing to be in deep conversation. However, the seat across from him, the one frequently manned by Jerry Seinfeld’s character, is noticeably empty save an unattended coffee cup.
In the lead up to TAAN’s, Wale has said that the standup comedian will serve as its conscience. It will be interesting see what, if anything, the empty seat symbolizes.
The pair of Seinfeld-inspired mixtapes (The Mixtape About Nothing, and More About Nothing respectively), that preceded this album hold a special place in the hearts of the DMV rapper’s core fan base, and seemingly for Wale himself. The promotional push for TAAN has been varied and creative, from the album release party in the diner that inspired the fictional Monk’s Cafe, to tour dates and pop-ups on college campuses.
Still, with several event albums and big singles from Big Sean, Kanye West, and Kendrick Lamar already out and still reverberating throughout the current Hip-Hop climate, will Wale’s self-described most personal album, and one that clearly means a lot to him, be drowned out by the noise? We’ll know in a week’s time.
In addition to the third album cover, Wale also released a full tracklist, which includes features from SZA and J. Cole. Take a look below for that plus cover number two, too.
