Remember when Jay-Z was a just a rapper? Yeah me neither. The Brooklynite has been more of a titan of industry than a musician in recent years, but he always manages to take hip-hop to higher heights in the process. Last fall Jay put on a multi-genre cultural collision for the ages with the inaugural Made In America Festival, and he managed to get it all on film.
The Ron Howard-directed documentary features footage from the formal announcement of the festival in Philadelphia (remember that weird pic with Freeway off to the side?), performances from all three days, and exclusive behind the scenes interviews and artist interactions. Jay’s status has a cultural icon was cemented long ago, but every year he seems to add another entry to his ever-growing list of successes.
Take a look at this latest example of Jay doing what has never been done before, while waiting to see what he does next.
