Could the 2012 version of the NBA playoffs go down as one of the most entertainingly, gut-wrenching experiences in recent basketball memory? Since second season began, I’ve been waking up many a morning and giving thanks to God that I’m no longer a degenerate gambler because the ups and downs could literally break a person’s wallet and mind.
How many times have you stepped away from a game or cut off the tube during the late game, thinking one squad had the W under wraps…only to come back or wake up and find out they either lost mightily or the game went down to a dramatic finish at the wire. “Old” teams showing that experience is still the best teacher when it comes to dealing with playoff pressure. Younger teams cutting their teeth and finding ways to overcome. Injuries changing the total look of matchups, bench players looking like MVP candidates, favorites making early exits, and once sure bets facing uphill odds. Momentum swings, buzz-beaters, internal blow-ups all happening and making the drama and tension high.
Today’s slate of games includes before Spurs and Clippers tip-off at 3:30pm ET in Game 3 and Thunder and Lakers do Game 4 at 10:30pm ET. Below, the NBA’s “Nightly Highlights” from Thursday and Friday do a good job capturing all of the action from the past two nights. But at this point, watching each game from buzzer-to-buzzer is almost mandatory because the unexpected keeps happening night in and night out.
