The Wire cast reunited

In the six long years since the last episode of The Wire, it’s been a slow burn for the alumni in their push to turn the show’s critical acclaim into further success. As of late, however, there have been several breakthroughs.

Idris Elba is a full-fledged Hollywood star. Michael K. Williams has become Chalky White (and almost became Django). Michael B. Jordan went on to become one of the faces of a Marvel franchise and Chad L. Coleman (“Cutty”) has found a home on The Walking Dead. Hell even Tristan Wilds went on to become a Grammy-nominated R&B singer.

One name curiously missing from the roll call is JD Williams, who gave life to my personal favorite character in the show’s 60 episodes, Preston “Bodie” Broadus.

So where has Williams been in the eight years since (spoiler alert) Bodie was gunned down at the behest of Marlo? Well, MadameNoire caught up with the 35-year-old (35?!) and asked him just that, “Where You Been?”

As it turns out, JD has spent his time just like most of the cast that haven’t broken through into the mainstream: picking up recurring roles on various television dramas and random roles in movies that don’t even have Wikipedia pages. Williams explains that he’s also taken a place behind the camera, working on producing and directing.

My favorite part of the clip, besides the comedy that is the t-shirt that Williams chose to wear even though he knew he was going to be on camera? The fact that he and many of The Wire vets participate in an annual paintball tournament for Marlo Stanfield’s charity, Moving Mountains, accompanied with a picture of Marlo, Omar, Cutty, Bodie and Clay Davis in full paintball regalia.. Now why wasn’t that include as a DVD bonus when I bought the box set?
