Kanye West was extremely accurate when he commented of the ripple effect that occurs when he speaks during televised events. Monday morning has been spent rehashing the ramifications of his early bid for president, announced during Sunday night’s VMAs. The seemingly offhand remark even made it all the way to the White House, who felt compelled enough to respond. Per Billboard:
White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest says of the announcement that he looks “forward to seeing what slogan he chooses to embroider on his campaign hat.” Earnest was traveling aboard Air Force One with the president to Alaska.
President Obama’s currently away on a three-day trip to Alaska. Hopefully, all of the ‘Yeezy 2020’ talk dies down by the time the chief returns home, otherwise expect him to be nudged into addressing the idea directly. For those who don’t remember, Obama called Kanye a “jackass” after the VMA incident with Taylor Swift in 2009, and he didn’t change his stance when David Simon questioned him about it in 2012, although the President admitted Kanye was “talented.”
Before attempting a big leap at the top office, Kanye should consider starting smaller, like running for mayor of Chicago. I’m almost certain he’ll find support for that idea.
