When I last saw Willy J Peso, he ended our interaction by saying very specifically, “Don’t sleep too long.” Now, that I’ve heard the his recently released Euphoria project, his confidence is warranted.
Although I actually kept a few songs from his previously released Destination Cloud 9 project in rotation and already knew he could clearly make quality music, the Detroit native definitely reinforces his well-rounded style throughout his new 13 track project.
For the record, Willy’s not a one-sided rapper. Instead, he effectively ties various styles into one, using an extremely raspy drawl and quick-change flow to seamlessly blend conflicting moods. Peso can make zone out tunes for the fellas (“Weed Crumbs”) in the same breath as smooth R&B retrospectives for the ladies (“When Whitney Met Bobby”), while insightful stand-outs like “Seeing Is Believing” cover ground for everyone. And, as everyone knows, versatile cohesiveness wins every time.
That being said, whenever Willy decides to drop next, we’ll make sure we stay wide awake.
