It’s 2013, and we can bank on at least one incredible comic book movie dropping per summer from now until our society goes belly-up. Those looking for the champion of 2014 already have their frontrunner in X-Men: Days Of Future Past, the new trailer confirming that Bryan Singer’s latest is going bring the noise. They’re still shooting and are working on special effects, so what we have here is more character/plot development than any sneak peeks at sentinels in action.
Fans of the classic X-Men comic story arch already know, but for the more mainstream of us in the audience, the trailer should do a great job of summarizing what, exactly, the movie will focus on: sending Wolverine into the past (or around the time that X-Men: First Class left off). It is here, in the ’70s, where the bulk of the action takes place, focusing on the deteriorated friendship between Xavier and Magneto. Lines will be drawn, sides will be picked, and a bunch of colorful X-Men from both the original trilogy and the ‘First Class’ timeline will make appearances (peep quick shots of Bishop and what looks like Blink).
Again, it doesn’t matter your devotion to the franchise. You could be a diehard fan of the comic book series, you could have grown up on the awesome ’90s Saturday morning cartoon, or you could have a couple of forgotten X-Men action figures scattered around your house. ‘Future Past’ has the look of one of the best comic book films to drop in recent memory.
Be there when it drops on May 23rd, 2014.
