I recently was hangin with someone & for some reason this song became the topic of debate as we argued the finer points of each & which was better.

“Knocks Me Off My Feet”

Stevie’s original version from Songs In The Key Of Life (1976)…

Stevie Wonder – “Knocks Me Off My Feet”

Twenty years later, Donell’s tenor version from his 1996 debut slept-on debut My Heart

Donell Jones – “Knocks Me Off My Feet”

Stevie Or Donell?

I’ll tell you who my vote goes to & why later. Just wanted to see what others thought because both versions do justice to some of the most simplistically beautiful lyrics ever set to music. Not too over the top or sappy, but more honest emotions & sentiments expressed. So much so that thirty years later & the song is still as transcendent as it was when created.

Anybody else know of artists who’ve covered it? Drop a lank in the comments because I want to listen to those versions as well.

On a sidenote, doesn’t young Stevie bear a striking resemblance to Dre 3000?
