From his mixtape 80’s Baby that has stood the test of time more for its artwork than for its music, Young Scooter offers us a revamped version of “Drugs.” This time around, it’s 2-for-1 with Kevin Gates and Rich Homie Quan replacing Thugger; that seems like a fair trade to me!
Instead of recycling his original raps, Scooter goes back to the booth for his verse. The self-proclaimed “Codeine Fiend” gets a little more detailed and descriptive than what we’re used to from him, offering a glimmer beyond the basic song about self-medication. Or maybe that’s just Gates’ influence manifesting itself, who is as usual intensely and almost uncomfortably honest in his revelations pertaining to illicit substances. Quan doesn’t add much except add some adlibs, but we’ll blame it on Scooter’s supply.
