“Old English” had me double-taking.
A$AP Ferg and Young Thug makes sense. Fergie and Freddie Gibbs, sure. Why not? But seeing Thugger gracing a track that also features Gangsta Gibbs is kind of shocking. And that’s 100% because I still go back and read Gibbs’ RNS HOF interview from time-to-time, factored with knowledge of Thug’s (for lack of a better term) ambiguous behavior.
Whatever, whatever. It’ll take you approximately 15 seconds to move past the surprise stage and into a goofy mean mug/head nod combo. Everything about the Salva & Nick Hook-produced track is that little fire emoticon. Every member of the trio showcases fit, rapid-fire bars, the kind that will require multiple spins to really crown a winner. And that aforementioned beat… it’s tough. As hell.
And, quality aside, I can’t remember the last time Gibbs has put out a track ready-made for mainstream success like this. Not that he necessarily cares about what the radio thinks, but I’m with the majority of our readership in wanting Freddie to win on as many levels as possible. Teaming up with two of the game’s brightest young stars for a track of this quality? That’s a recipe for success if I’ve ever heard of one.
The track is the first leak off of an up-coming Mass Appeal compilation album. Good looks, Mr. Jones.
