Marlins ace Dontrelle Willis — one of my favorite MLB players solely for the way he's portrayed in The Dugout — got busted for DUI early this morning.
An officer saw the former NL rookie of the year stop his black Bentley in the South Beach neighborhood, get out of the car around 4:30 a.m. and urinate in the street. Miami Beach police spokesman Bobby Hernandez said the officer noticed signs of intoxication as he approached Willis, who failed a field sobriety test.
Somehow I'm not surprised he failed the field sobriety test. Usually when I stop my car to pee in a city street at 4:30 in the morning I'm somewhat unprepared to stand on one leg or recite the alphabet backwards. But color me impressed. That's Danny DeVito drunk.
Seriously, why don't multimillionaire professional athletes hire drivers? Willis really should be setting a better example for his teammates. I mean, he IS the only Marlin that makes more than minimum wage.
