BENGALS PREFER TO BE CAGED

By / 05.19.07

You know that sign in Cincinnati that informed you that it been 120 days since a Cincinnati Bengal was arrested, well it's back at zero today because linebacker A.J. Nicholson was arrested and charged with domestic violence yesterday:

Police in nearby Taylor Mill, Ky., arrested Nicholson after a woman called 911 on Friday afternoon to say she had been assaulted by the second-year player. He was charged with fourth-degree assault, a misdemeanor.

A fourth-degree misdemeanor doesn't sound very serious, but I'm always confused by "degree" scales.  For instance, first degree murder is more heinous than second degree, but third degree burns are much more serious than first degree burns.  This can cause all sorts of confusion if someone is killed by being set aflame.  Can we get some standardization here please?  Anyway, if you think you have seen Mr. Nicholson's name in the Police Blotter before, you clearly are animal profiling with a prejudicial dislike towards large jungle cats.  Yes he has been arrested before, but there is no way Cincinnati could have known that before they drafted him last year:

Last March, Nicholson pleaded no contest to burglary and grand theft in Tallahassee, Fla., and was sentenced to two months in a work program. He had been charged with stealing electronic equipment and other items from the apartment of a former Florida State teammate.  Nicholson was also placed on two years' probation, which could be jeopardized by his latest arrest.

OK, they knew.  That's a hell of an organization they're running over there.  But does that mean police should pull over everything with stripes.  Yes, yes it does. -KD
