WEEKEND PICKS: AN HONEST MISTAKE
MICHIGAN STATE IS OVERRATED

CHRIS KAMAN GOT DUNKED ON

By / 11.03.07

On the first Friday of the '07-'08 NBA season, the Golden State Warriors faced the Los Angeles Clippers in a match of Western Conference up and comers.  Early in the third quarter, the Clippers' 7'0" center Chris Kaman was rudely greeted in the lane by second-year Warriors' 6'5" small forward Kelenna Azubuike. (Sigh.)  How tall does a white guy have to be before he doesn't get dunked on by a black guy?  Sadly, the answer is probably 9'6", which means my Gattaca-inspired lengthening of my femurs probably won't work to avoid the same fate at the Y.  Too bad I already broke my legs.  The moral of the story is not to watch Gattaca when you're drunk.  Or at all.

Anyway, Kaman actually played a good game, 26 points and 18 rebounds in 36 minutes, when he wasn't being posterized:

"Chris was terrific tonight," Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy said. "He really controlled the paint. He got hit in the head and went out and got some stitches, but he came back. He needs to get hit in the head every night, I guess."

Ha, that's a funny one Coach.  I used to dislike Mike Dunleavy Jr. because he seemed like a cocky, coach's son who went to Duke, but now I kind of feel sorry for him because I suspect dear old dad made "jokes" like that often to motivate – "maybe you need to get hit in the head to start making free throws, huh?"  I could be wrong, but Irishmen take pride in their domestic violence.  It's kind of like our cottage industry.  Coach was probably in a good mood last night though because L.A. won 120-114. -KD
