There are a few pennant contenders (Note: Actual contention will end on or before tax day) interested in former Cy Young winner Bartolo Colon:
The Pirates, Houston Astros and Kansas City Royals had scouts at Colon's most recent start, Wednesday in the Caribbean World Series. Before being chased in the fifth inning, he gave up two runs and five hits, but 44 of his 57 pitches were strikes. "For two innings, he looked great," one scout said yesterday from the Dominican. "There wasn't much after that, but you're still talking about Bartolo Colon here. This is someone who knows how to pitch."
And knows how to eat. It's a good thing he's right-handed because his left arm probably goes numb on a daily basis. Which city will Colon choose? Will it be the Three Rivers town with their heavy German cuisine, the cow town and their famously tasty wet barbeque, or the biggest state in the lower 48 with giant T-bones to match? By the way,the headline for this article in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, "Pirates take a look at Colon in Dominican", is pilfered directly from scene 6 of my avant-garde screenplay Fuckaneers of the Bermuda Triangle. -KD
