NFL OWNERS UNANIMOUSLY BURN CBA

By 05.20.08

As everyone expected, the NFL owners exercised their option to get out of the collective bargaining agreement that they had ratified just 26 months earlier. The vote was unanimous; I'm sure J.D. Roth and Henry Fonda were both pleased.

As far as the 2008 season, this won't mean anything, and it likely won't change anything for 2009, either. The owners and the players' union plan to continue negotiating, and it is likely that a a new agreement will be reached long before the 2011 season, which is the earliest that a labor stoppage could take place.

This would also mean that 2010 would be played without a salary cap. The owners have been complaining that players were getting 59 percent of league revenue and 99 percent of hot league ass. You'd think some rich old white folks could nail some of that down.
