Guess who’s starting for the Red Sox in Game 1

After a couple days off from baseball, the playoffs heat up again tonight* in Philadelphia, where the Dodgers will take on the Phillies in Game 1 of the NLCS.  [*Note: playoffs may not actually heat up.] Ooh, I can’t wait!  …to go to the airport and leave the country, that is.

Tomorrow night, the new but intense AL East rivalry between the Rays and Red Sox comes to a head in Tampa.  Meteorologists predict it will be pleasantly domey, with a 40% chance of on-field punching.

After the jump, my extremely shallow breakdown, plus… predictions!  My LDS predictions were miserably incorrect in the NL, but spot-on (down to the number of games) for the AL, which means I did slightly better than a chimpanzee trained to point at one logo or another.  As a prognosticator, that’s all I’ve ever really aspired to.

NLCS: Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Philadelphia Phillies

Game 1: Derek Lowe vs. Cole Hamels, tonight, 8:22 Eastern

I get the feeling that, record-wise, the 2008 Dodgers are the new 2006 Cardinals.  Except more likeable, with Manny Ramirez, and not written about incessantly by Deadspin.  OR… now that the Phillies are written about incessantly on Deadspin, does that mean they’re headed for a World Series win?

No.  Dodgers in six.

ALCS: Boston Red Sox vs. Tampa Bay Rays

Game 1: Daisuke Matsuzaka vs. James Shields

First things first: this whole business about women getting the “female Rayhawk” when they get waxed (story here, disappointing video here) is unspeakably retarded.  It’s not a mohawk, it’s not a Rayhawk.  It’s the landing strip, and it’s one of the most common, basic waxings there is.  I can’t believe what people try to make stories out of.  By that logic, anyone who gets a full Brazilian must be a huge Jay Buhner fan.

As for a prediction… no clue.  I think the Rays are absolutely the better team, but I fear that the more seasoned Red Sox will come through with the key hits to win close games.  I also desperately want the Rays to go to the Series.  Therefore: Red Sox in 7.  If I’m wrong, we all win.

Well, except the Red Sox.
