First thing’s first: So Russia supposedly was a gold medal contender in men’s hockey, but as the Olympic tournament heads to the semifinals; the Rouskies will be heading back than Siberia. The Canadian hockey team,
who hadn’t played since losing to the US on Sunday , destroyed Russia last night,
Canada led 3-0 just 13 minutes into the game, 6-1 early in the second period and cruised on in. Russian star Alex Ovechkin was badgered basically into an afterthought.
It was an overwhelming performance. [The] Canadians hadn’t beaten Russia in the Olympics in 50 years. –Tampa Trib.
But the win was overshadowed by this dubious quote from NBC analyst Mike Milbury (left), who took it upon himself to assess the hearts and minds of the Russian squad.
“I was shocked that it was this one-sided. And I was really disappointed that these guys came with their euro-trash game. It was just. No heart, no guts, no nothing there to back it up. I mean Alex Ovechkin was an average player tonight. I know they’re going to bounce back, but to be that poor and to be that intimidated physically by the Canadians, that really shocked me.” –via Stupid Llama.
Whatever. The Russians aren’t as bad as the Serbians, who run around anywhere they go like they own the place. Serbia is like the Jersey Shore of Earth, minus the ripped abs and awesome hair.
