Bellator CEO Is Son Of Winnebago Man

By / 07.08.10

Bellator Fighting Championships will begin its third season of mixed martial arts action in August, with featured fights including heavyweight and bantamweight tournaments, as well as a 115-pound division for women. CEO Bjorn Rebney has been steadily building a strong product, directing his promotion’s MMA tournaments at predominantly Hispanic markets. Bellator currently has a contract to be aired on ESPN Deportes, but the popularity is growing among traditional networks. Rebney is also working to debut his company on pay-per-view to capture a global audience.

While it’s great that fighters like current Middleweight Champion Hector Lombard and Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez are receiving an opportunity to showcase MMA tournaments to a new demographic, it has also recently been pointed out by MiddleEasy.com that Rebney is the son of Uproxx favorite and Internet legend Winnebago Man. And that F-ing rules.

Winnebago Man, or Jack Rebney to boring people, is the subject of an award-winning documentary that will hit theaters nationwide tomorrow. Here’s the edited, SFW trailer:

And for those of you not bound by the virginity of your ears or those around you, here’s an unedited taste of Winnebago Man in action.

In the case that anyone came here looking for Bellator action or to discuss how the younger Rebney became the first MMA promoter to ever secure a TV contract with the Worldwide Leader, then I guess I could point you in the direction of this very insightful interview he did a few weeks back with MMA Nation (via Bloody Elbow). But I’m a man of visual necessity, so let’s watch some people get pummeled.
