When someone’s got a restraining order on you, don’t write on their Facebook wall. Trevor Mbakwe, a forward from Minnesota, couldn’t comprehend these rules and was arrested for violating a restraining order his ex-girlfriend had on him.
From the Huffington Post:
Police said Mbakwe was booked into Ramsey County Jail on misdemeanor charges after he posted a message on a St. Paul woman’s Facebook page. The woman had previously filed a restraining order against Mbakwe in Dakota County, and reported the contact to police.
University of Minnesota police took Mbakwe into custody at home near campus and brought him to jail. Bail was set at $500.
“We are aware of the charges that have been filed against Trevor,” Minnesota athletic director Joel Maturi said in a statement issued by the school. “Until we know all of the facts surrounding the charges it would be premature for us to have any further comment.”
Mbakwe leads the Golden Gophers with 13.4 points and 10.4 rebounds per game. He transferred to Minnesota before last season, but was not allowed to play while facing a felony battery charge stemming from his days at Miami-Dade Community College.
No one could have seen this coming! His history was so spotless!
A player averaging a double-double is not someone you want getting arrested on your team. The backup-backup center is fine, because he’s not really doing that much. Minnesota’s ranked No. 25 in one poll and on the cusp of the other one, and without Mbakwe, they probably won’t fare a chance against No. 8 Purdue this Thursday. Mbakwe’s the leading rebounder on the team and second in points, so it’s up to Blake Hoffarber now. Uh.. good luck.
Oh yeah, some more news about this comes straight from Gopherhole.com (not to be confused with Gerbilhole.com, something that probably won’t interest you): Mbakwe could possibly be suspended for the season, which would totally screw Minnesota. It just goes to show that you shouldn’t write on people’s Facebook walls if they have a restraining order against you. What you do instead is make up a fake email, register it with Facebook, create a completely fake profile and THEN harass them. Amateur.
