The Miami Marlins Home Run Statue Is Really Happening

By 03.26.12

We’d seen the artist renderings and we’d heard the rumors – every time Giancarlo “Mike” Stanton and Co. launch a home run into the stands at Marlins Park, a new giant statue would light up and lead the fans in celebration. And now we can actually see for ourselves how this Mardi Gras float prop that time forgot will look in person, thanks to a new video of the statue’s practice run…

It’s clearly not the most terrible thing in the world – at least not to right-handed hitters – but it certainly lacks the charm of Bernie Brewer’s giant slide or, you know, fireworks. I just can’t get past one thing, though, and it’s the movement of the fish and the strange resemblance to the Price is Right “Cliffhanger” game. Like all it needs is this music, Bob Barker’s tiny microphone and some hillbilly boob screaming, “16 dollars!” at a can of peas.

And while I love me some Cliffhanger, I’d still much rather see a Plinko board with screaming Carlos Zambrano faces every time the opposing team homers.
