Check Out Bryce Harper’s New Under Armour Ad And/Or 1980s Music Video

Washington Nationals sophomore Bryce Harper is probably going to be one of the best players of this generation and possibly the best player with a faux hawk in Major League Baseball history. So it’s only natural that we’ll soon be saturated with endless ads proclaiming how amazing the 20-year old phenom is, and the campaign will begin with his new Under Armour commercial.

Harper has been hard at work preparing for his second season in the Majors, as he took a trip back to his hometown of Las Vegas for his intense offseason workout plan that makes my morning walk to the bathroom sound almost meaningless.

After the playoffs ended, Harper went home to his parents’ house in Las Vegas and took a month off. He started lifting again in mid-November. Harper set his alarm for 4:50 a.m. four times a week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday), was up by 5 and drove to a training facility in Las Vegas by 5:30 to join a group of minor league and major league players.

“It gives me a good time to relax and hang out and clear my mind,” said Harper, who reported to spring training at 6-foot-3, 230 pounds. “Lifting and stuff really helps me clear my mind. I love it.”

The workouts were usually between 90 minutes and two hours, a little longer on leg days. (Via the Washington Post)

The commercial basically serves as a one-minute showcase of how much Harper busts his ass, and for a sports gear commercial, it’s pretty basic and solid. It features slow motion walks, serious music, Harper lifting the sh*t out of some weights and then hitting the tits off a ball. For bonus points, I think he was actually aiming for a moving car. And the whole thing also comes with an inspirational message:

“I don’t have ‘gears’, I play one way. That’s all I’ve ever known.” #IWILL

But then there’s the random neon weightlifting. I don’t really get that. Maybe it’s just to make sure we’re paying attention. Or Under Armour is trying to target acid-heads. Either way, I give this commercial an A.
