We Now (Kind Of) Know The Truth Behind The Lil Wayne And Miami Heat Beef

By / 02.21.13

While most NBA fans are probably glued to Chris Broussard’s Twitter account to check out his breaking NBA trade deadline news that Yahoo!’s Adrian Wojnarowski already broke 5 minutes earlier, some people are still trying to get to the bottom of the season’s biggest controversy – Lil Wayne’s beef with the Miami Heat.

In case you forgot, Weezy claimed that he was removed from a recent Heat game because he was cheering for his favorite team, the Los Angeles Lakers. That’s his story – he was simply cheering for the Lakers in the Heat’s arena and the police made him leave for that. Just that. Not because he also allegedly threatened another fan by motioning that he had a gun. Simply because he was cheering for the Lakers.

Since then, the Heat revealed that Wayne left on his own accord, but the rapper still insisted that he’d been banned by the NBA from all league events, which led some conspiracy theorists to believe that noted Illuminati front man and Brooklyn Nets minority owner Jay Z was behind it all. The NBA – where rappers being bigger news than players happens.

First off, while Lil Wayne was shouting, “F*ck LeBron, f*ck Wade, f*ck Miami and I f*cked Chris Bosh’s wife” or something to that effect at a Houston show last week, he was apparently living in his own little fantasy land. According to TMZ:

NBA Senior Director of Basketball Communications Mark Broussard tells TMZ … there is “no truth at all” to the claims Weezy made during a performance in Houston over the weekend.

Wayne had told the crowd the NBA had banned him from all events because of his beef with the Miami Heat organization, stemming from an incident last week … when Wayne says he was kicked out of a Heat game for rooting for the Lakers. The Heat organization said Wayne left voluntarily.

But that’s still the NBA’s and Heat’s word against Wayne, so he hit Miami’s 99 JAMZ yesterday to clear everything up in the most confusing way possible.

“Yeah, first of all I didn’t have a cup. I cant drink anything. I had a little too much to think that night. I don’t apologize for that night. I don’t apologize for being who I am. This is who I am and yes, I did say those things. The only thing I do wanna take back from saying that is I said “F LeBron” I didn’t mean to say that cause me and LeBron are cool and I’m really cool with his mom and we have a real good relationship and that’s my homie but it just slipped out. I didn’t mean to say that.”

“As for the city of Miami, I do wanna apologize for the misunderstanding of whatever has taken place that everybody thinking I have something against the city but that’s totally, totally, totally wrong. I mean these people accepted me with open arms since day one when I was a Hot Boy. This is just sports y’all. Ain’t got nothin’ to do with Miami.” (Via VIBE)

You see, he had too much to think that night. What a clever play on words. So deep, that Weezy.

You can listen to the entire interview here or you can just check out the Cliff’s Notes on the Miami New Times’ Heat writer’s Twitter feed. It’s worth it.
