Macho Man Randy Savage’s Family Celebrated His Life At Olive Garden

As I mentioned in yesterday’s award-winning Watch This piece – it took home “Best Tasting Bacon Dish” at Paula Deen’s family picnic – Macho Man Randy Savage, or Randy Poffo as his family knew him, passed away two years ago after he suffered a heart attack while driving with his wife in Tampa, Florida. For a lot of children of the 80s like myself, Macho Man was obviously one of the WWF’s biggest icons, alongside Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant and, of course, Koko B. Ware.

But he was also a family man, and as all of his fans celebrated his legacy yesterday, his brother and mother also honored his memory in their own special way – with a lunch at Olive Garden.

Randy’s brother Lanny Poffo tells TMZ he and his 86-year-old mother Judy decided to celebrate Randy’s incredible life with a special lunch … and they picked Olive Garden in Tampa, FL because it was always the go-to spot for family functions.

Lanny says … the family shared so many happy memories at the O.G. — so today, they wanted to focus on his life and the good times … and not his death.

“I have to be strong for my family now,” Lanny says … “I’m just glad to have had him as a brother and wanna celebrate his life as much as I can instead of continuing to mourn.” (Via TMZ)

Sure, it sounds sort of odd to celebrate a loved one’s life at the Olive Garden, because it’s not the classiest joint in the world (although the breadsticks are exquisite), but I think this is a really sweet story. Especially since Lanny probably paid with all of that “Wrestling with Rhyme” cash he’s been sitting on.
