UFC On FUEL TV 10 Results: Werdum’s Big Win And Thiago Silva’s Bigger Challenge

By / 06.10.13

Werdum win

For those of you who didn’t get to join our live discussion for UFC on FUEL TV 10 on Saturday night, fret not as I’ve got a cheat sheet of the night’s results for you right here. Heading into his main event fight against Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira, Fabrício Werdum was the No. 3-ranked UFC Heavyweight and with his win on Saturday in Brazil, he’ll probably stay right there, what with Junior dos Santos waiting for his rematch with Cain Velasquez and Daniel Cormier patiently waiting for his shot as well.

But Werdum’s armbar submission of Minotauro in the second round was still damn impressive, as it showcased his ability to outmaneuver his opponent’s guillotine attempt and made a clear statement that he’s ready for a title shot.

UFC on FUEL TV 10 Results

Main Event: Fabrício Werdum def. Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira

The Ultimate Fighter Brazil – Season Two Finale: Leonardo Santos def. William Macario

Thiago Silva def. Rafael Cavalcante

Erick Silva def. Jason High

Daniel Sarafian def. Eddie Mendez

Rony Mariano Bezerra def. Mike Wilkinson

Raphael Assuncao def. Vaughan Lee

Felipe Arantes def. Godofredo Castro

Ildemar Alcantara def. Leandro Silva

Rodrigo Damm def. Mizuto Hirota

Caio Magalhaes def. Karlos Vemola

Antonio Braga Neto def. Anthony Smith

Perhaps the most interesting outcome of this event was Thiago Silva ending a string of tough luck finishes, as he hadn’t won a fight since UFC 102 in 2009, and not to mention his two overturned victories after failed drug tests. It doesn’t mean much for Silva’s title shot hopes, because he has a long, clean way to go before he gets that kind of chance, but Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva had an interesting idea in the meantime – why don’t they settle their bad blood with a little ass-kicking?

The obvious problem with this idea is size. Bigfoot fights as a heavyweight at 264-lbs. while Thiago cut his weight from 230 to 205 to fight at light heavyweight. Bigfoot says that Thiago would have to pack it on to meet him for a heavyweight match, but Thiago said that if the fight happens it will be at light heavyweight. I’ll just go ahead and invoke the spirit of my buddy Royce Gracie by saying that these two should just shut up and fight as is.

So What’s Up With UFC 161?

Despite the fact that the Interim Bantamweight Championship fight between Renan Barão and Eddie Vineland has been scratched because of Barão’s injury, UFC 161 will still go one without a title fight. Fortunately, between Rashad Evans and Dan Henderson fighting to climb the light heavyweight rankings and Roy Nelson looking to push his current win streak to four against “Michael” Stipe Miocic, we should be in for an entertaining evening this Saturday.

And I am pleased to say that while we may not have a title match, we will have a whole new series of badges for that live discussion. Isn’t that right, Arianny?
