George W. Bush Sent Alabama Kicker Cade Foster A Letter After The Iron Bowl

Alabama Crimson Tide kicker Cade Foster took the majority of the blame from fans after the then-No. 1 Tide’s BCS Championship hopes were dashed in a 34-28 loss to Auburn in the incredible Iron Bowl. Foster missed three field goals in the game, with the biggest being a 44-yarder that may have sealed the win for Alabama, but instead the door was opened for his replacement, freshman Adam Griffith, to miss short on a 57-yard kick that Auburn’s Chris Davis ended up returning for the game-winning touchdown. But of course you remember that.

Since that dreadful game, Foster has been picked at by random schmucks on Twitter, as well as ESPN analysts, while his teammates have come to his defense. Now, though, he revealed that he has another friend in former President George W. Bush, who sent Foster a hand-written letter of encouragement after the loss.

Cade Foster letter

Translated: “Dear Cade (#43), Life has its setbacks. I know! However, you will be a stronger human with time. I wish you all the best. Sincerely, another 43, George Bush.” I really love that he put “#43” in parentheses.

Now, I don’t have opinions about politics, so this simply seems like a nice gesture from a well-known sports fan and a guy who has seen his fair share of criticism. But it’s not the first time that W has sent a letter like this to an athlete. He actually sent one to Brett Favre after he was hit in the balls with a football during practice back in 2010.
