With Leather’s Watch This: Here’s A POV Look At A Bike BASE Jump On ‘Death Road’

By / 01.29.14

Failed BASE jump

I suppose I should mention that this is actually a failed BASE jump, so that you’re not surprised when the rider starts saying things like, “Ow!” and “Ouch!” The ride took place two weeks ago at Bolivia’s North Yungas Road, which is known, among other things, as “Death Road” because a lot of people have died while traveling on it, thanks to the incredibly dangerous features. Basically, it is 43 miles of flirting with the afterlife, and a lot of people have tempted fate and failed.

Naturally, such a description makes it a magnet for daredevils and extreme sports enthusiasts, especially mountain bikers who love it for its mostly downhill characteristics. The biker in this POV video was either lucky or unlucky depending on how full or empty your glass is. That he left with a fractured forearm and cut tendons in his knee is possibly a miracle, but I also consider it a success if I make it to the end of the street on my bike.

NBA: Thunder at Heat – 7 PM ET on ESPN
NBA: Bulls at Spurs – 9:30 PM ET on ESPN

This game probably would have been more fun if the Bulls had forced Derrick Rose to undergo that Adamantium procedure during the offseason. I miss that guy.

NHL: Rangers at Islanders – 7:30 PM ET on NBC Sports

No Blues? My boycott of NBC Sports continues. For the record, my boycott has less to do with hockey and more to do with the way they miserably promoted Michelle Beadle and eventually canceled her show instead of embracing her as one of TV’s most charming sports personalities.

NCAA Basketball
Memphis at UCF – 7 PM ET on ESPN2
Arizona at Stanford – 9 PM ET on ESPN2
Butler at Seton Hall – 9 PM ET on FS1
Iowa State at Kansas – 9 PM ET on ESPNU

Now that UCF’s football program will forever be considered one of the five best in the country after its huge Fiesta Bowl win that everyone is still talking about, I hope the school that I sometimes proudly attended now shifts its focus to its men’s basketball program. Because I assume that whatever happens on ESPNU tonight will cause many people to point and laugh.
