Here Is The Ugly Stat Sheet From Perhaps The Worst Football Game Of The Year

This weekend’s slate of college football games was so incredibly bad that ESPN’s “College Gameday” settled for making Cambridge, Mass., the site of this year’s Harvard-Yale game, Saturday’s show location (Harvard won, by the way).

No game summarized this destitution better than the Virginia Tech-Wake Forest match-up, which finished regulation with goose eggs at 0-0. The game’s scoring summary can be seen below. It’s absolutely putrid.

Awful Announcing hit the nail on the head with the description–that is special. The two squads combined for 18 punts, four turnovers, and three missed field goals. The most amazing part of those statistics is the missed field goals all belonged to Wake, meaning the Demon Deacons only had to make one to win the game. They didn’t and needed two in overtime to put this game out of its misery with a 6-3 win.

Wake’s season is done after their game with Duke next Saturday, while the Hokies are battling for bowl eligibility against in-state rivals Virginia on Friday.

It’s unimaginable what Hokies head coach Frank Beamer’s reaction will be if they beat the Cavaliers in Blacksburg.
