Friday Sports Conversation: Why Do People Hate The New England Patriots?

Well here we go everyone, let’s jump right into this week’s Friday sports conversation. Why do people hate the Patriots? Why do people hate them with the fire of a thousand suns? Is it because of their success? Is it because Tom Brady’s so damn beautiful?

Or maybe, just maybe it’s the fans themselves. “They hate us cause they ain’t us.”

Have at it in the comments…

Ashley Burns:

For better or worse, I am a Miami Dolphins fan, so my hatred of the Patriots stems from the fact that this is a franchise that went from being a ridiculous joke to an AFC East dynasty and perennial playoff/Super Bowl contender. The Dolphins, on the other, simply adopted the ridiculous joke part and failed to pick up on that whole aspect of becoming really good. I don’t give a crap about the cheating, as much as I hate the Pats for not just beating Miami on the field, but also beating them by taking Wes Welker away for nothing. Would Welker have become an amazing possession receiver if he’d stayed in Miami and played for a gaggle of QBs with a combined Madden skill rating of -16? Probably not. So of course he went to New England and became awesome. F*ck the Patriots for being so good. F*CK THEM F*CK THEM F*CK THEM F*CK THEM F*CK THEM F*CK THEM.

God, I’m so jealous.

Brian Sharp:

It’s tough for me to answer this in just a few sentences because the list is so plentiful, so instead I’ll answer it in one long run-on. It’s because every time they’ve won some kind of controversy has followed them there whether it be the tuck rule or spygate or deflategate which to me implies that if not for bending the rules or breaking the rules or having the rules interpreted in a way that makes no sense to logic and reason they’d be lucky to have one Super Bowl win let alone three of them and in addition Bill Belichick is the worst human being to ever grace the planet bar none and this may be a bit off topic but if the Patriots are the easiest NFL team to hate the Seahawks are right up there with them so is it possible that both teams can lose on Sunday or maybe all the key players from both teams get slightly injured in a fiery bus crash on the way to the stadium is that too much to ask I don’t think so Go Bears!

Andrew Husband:

Let’s face it — everyone hates the New England Patriots because Tom Brady is just so damn pretty. From his luscious lips to those ugh-inducing UGG boots, the longtime quarterback is a perfect target for the ire of anyone with a good personality. I mean, why else would he have such a deflated income — his ball-handling skills?

Dan Seitz:

They’ve won too much. They’re not underdogs, they’re Cobra Kai now.

Ray Lewis (guest hot taker):

Listen, not to go all totally out of conscious, but just think about this, Stephen A., honest to God. When we – the first time we created something called a tuck rule, it’s the only reason we know – I’m just being honest! – the only reason we know who Tom Brady is, because of a tuck rule! There’s no such thing as a tuck rule! If the ball is in your hand, and I knock it out your hand, whether it’s going backwards, forwards, lateral, sideways, however it’s coming out, that’s a freaking fumble!

But guess what we created? We created a freaking tuck rule!
