Listen To Tom Brady Say His Feelings Were Hurt Because Of The DeflateGate Allegations

Deflategate has been a lot of things to a lot of people since it became a story exactly one week ago. It has been a source of satire for SNL as well as for Bryan Cranston. Analysts such as Troy Aikman have gone on record saying the Patriots should be punished even worse than the Saints were for Bountygate. Scientists Bill Nye and Shaquille O’Neal have tried to confirm whether or not deflating a football would provide any benefits. Heck the story even made Mark Brunell cry. But one thing we really hadn’t known was what one of the central figures in this whole mess, Mr. Tom Brady, really truly felt about it. At least until now. Brady joined WEEI’s “Dennis & Callahan” show on Monday morning to discuss how having to deal with the last week has effected him.

“I personalized a lot of things and thought this was all about me and my feelings got hurt, and then I moved past it because it’s not serving me. I think what’s serving me is to try to prepare for the game ahead, and I’ll deal with whatever happens later. I’ll have my opportunity to try to figure out what happened and figure out a theory like everyone else is trying to do. But this isn’t the time for that, and honestly I’m not interested in trying to find out right now because we have the biggest game of our season ahead.”

I guess it’s easy to make jokes about deflategate and offer up our own hot takes, but when you stop and think about the media’s constant badgering and how that effects the people involved, it’s easy to lose sight of what’s important. And yet despite the media being a bunch of mean bullies, Brady still wasn’t about to let that change his positive outlook.

“Everyone will say, ‘God, it’s been a tough week for you.’ But it’s been a great week for me, to really be able to recalibrate the things that are important in my life and understand the people that support me, and love me, and care about me. I think that’s been the best thing to come out of this week.”

I think we can all learn a valuable lesson here. If you have millions of dollars, a supermodel wife, and you’re the starting quarterback of a Super Bowl team, you too can have your feelings hurt when you’re the key suspect in a deflated ball scandal. But in the end, it’s important to not take these things too seriously.
