Let’s put aside the NFL’s persistent problems with player safety and conduct, Deflategate, and all the rest for a moment to talk about something really important: Roger Goodell ran the 40-yard dash for charity, and he nearly beat Tom Brady’s time.
Brady ran a 5.28 at the combine, which is limping offensive lineman slow. To put it in perspective, that’s just a quarter-second faster than Floyd Womack’s time. Womack, you may recall, is a 350 pound man nicknamed Pork Chop. Brady’s time is also a quarter-second faster than Roger Goodell’s time, though there is certainly an asterisk next to Brady’s name on this accomplishment.
In the above video, we see Goodell running a 5.53 dash in support of St. Jude, the NFL’s Play 60 initiative, and Run Rich Run, the NFL Network’s upcoming spotlight on the slow footedness of analyst Rich Eisen. The thing is, Goodell is in an office on carpet while wearing loafers and dress slacks. He is also a 56-year-old executive, not a 22-year-old athlete. What I’m saying is, I believe that Roger Goodell could beat Tom Brady in a footrace.
