Cowboys’ Greg Hardy Made A 9/11 Joke On Twitter During The Draft

Have you ever been sitting on Twitter and gone, “I think I should reply to a tweet and make a 9/11 joke”? Probably not, because you’re not Cowboys defensive end Greg Hardy. Unless you’re Greg Hardy, in which case thanks for reading Uproxx, Greg Hardy.

Anyway, the Carolina Panthers — Hardy’s former team, where he played from 2010 until last year — selected Michigan TE/WR Devin Funchess during the second round of the NFL Draft. The Panthers apparently plan on pairing the 6’5 Funchess with their massive wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin, who is also 6’5. Of course, since they’re two tall people playing a sport together, someone decided to nickname them “The Twin Towers.” That someone was a Panthers fan named Adam.

Sure, it’s not the most original nickname in the world, but it’s harmless, so whatever. Well, it was harmless, until Hardy saw Adam’s tweet and decided to make a joke about the Sept. 11 attacks (which has since been deleted).

Hardy later apologized after being swarmed with people telling him how horrible his joke was:

And Jerry Jones said the team will “address” the tweet.

So to recap Hardy’s last two weeks, he was suspended by the NFL for 10 games for conduct detrimental to the league, got called a “woman beater” by one of his teammates, managed to get his Bentley stuck in a flood and made a 9/11 joke on Twitter. Maybe Hardy should, like, stay inside with no Internet access and chill for a few days.
