A College Baseball Team Turned A Routine Grounder Into A Little League Blooper

Home runs are usually great because they represent impressive feats of human (or Giancarlo) strength. Sometimes, though, you don’t have to hit the ball crazy hard to make it all the way around the bases. That’s when things get really fun.

Memphis University’s Brandon Montgomery hit the ball weakly even by inside-the-park homer standards, but that’s because it was technically a fielder’s choice after his grounder to the shortstop prompted a rundown, with a runner getting tagged out between second and third base. Montgomery advanced to second during that exchange, and then the University of South Florida infield just chilled and reflected on how that play was crazy, man (probably). As they were doing so, Montgomery took off for an uncovered third base. After he got there, USF chilled and reflected on how that harshed their chill vibe — and then Montgomery just went home. So harsh, bro.

They might have thought timeout was called, but wouldn’t that have gone out the window once Montgomery took third? I’m convinced it’s simply an excess of chill. Can you even call what the USF players did an error? It’s going in my scorecard as “FC, scored (chill).”
