The New York Rangers and Tampa Bay Lightning met in New York on Friday night to play out Game 7 with a spot in the Stanley Cup Final on the line. As you’d imagine, tickets to catch the action live at Madison Square Garden sold for quite a pretty penny, especially if you wanted to score a seat up close.

One fan seated along the glass was interviewed by Sportsnet’s Scott Oake just prior to the opening puck drop and was very willing to admit just how much his seats set him back.

“Forty-five…hundred…dollars.”

The fan, who made sure to show off his presumably expensive necklace while getting his airtime, also recognized that he could have sold his seats and turned quite a profit before “blowing all that money on water”…whatever that means. Ultimately, though, he decided to hold onto the tickets in hopes of seeing the Rangers clinch the Eastern Conference.

When Oake asked the Rangers fan to repeat just how hard the tickets hit him in the wallet, the fan confirmed the real estate cost him $4500 before tacking on what has to be one of the best sign-offs ever to be uttered on national television.

“Hundreds only. Benjamin Franklin is killin’ the game!”
