It’s really hard to do something unprecedented if you’re a MLB player. The league has been around since 1903, so just about everything has occurred at one time or another.

On Saturday afternoon, the Pittsburgh Pirates managed to find something that has never happened before: a 4-5-4 triple play.

St. Louis catcher Yadier Molina hit a line drive to Pirates second baseman Neil Walker, who made a pretty impressive play to get the out. Walker then fired the ball to third baseman Jung Ho Kang, who stepped on the bag after realizing that Jhonny Peralta didn’t tag up for out No. 2. After a moment of confusion, Kang realized that Jason Heyward — who was standing on second — also forgot to tag up, so he fired back to Walker and got the third out of the inning.

This play also ended up having a pretty big impact on the game, as the Pirates took down the Cardinals, 7-5.
