The Unexpected Retirement Of Connor Halliday

This NFL offseason has been littered with unexpected retirements. Connor Halliday can be added to that list now. Halliday, an undrafted quarterback from Washington State, retired just before the Redskins rookie minicamp. The Redskins haven’t given a specific reason as to why Halliday retired.

Halliday dropped in the draft because of a season-ending injury he suffered in his last season at Washington State. The Redskins quarterback situation could best be described as unsettled, which makes the Halliday retirement all the more interesting. Underrated quarterbacks rarely emerge as starters in the NFL, but Washington seems like an ideal environment for an undrafted quarterback to try his hand.

In the wake of the Chris Borland retirement, it’ll be interesting to see if there is a spike in unexpected retirements in the coming years.
