It may be tough to get a hit during your first Major League at-bat — but Minnesota Twins rookie Eddie Rosario doesn’t think so. That’s Rosario, a 23-year-old rookie who was called up on Monday, hitting a home run on his very first major league pitch.
“It was an awesome moment,” Rosario told MLB.com. “To have your first-bat and hit the first pitch for a home run. I was just trying to be aggressive.”
Even cooler was that his family flew in from Puerto Rico and was in attendance at the game to witness this extraordinary accomplishment. In this in-game interview with the Rosario’s family, his father touchingly says he’s, “probably the happiest father in this world right now.”
The last major leaguer to hit a home run on their first ever pitch was the Pittsburgh Pirates’ Starling Marte in July of 2012.
