The Dallas Cowboys may be without their best player when the season begins on Sept. 13. Dez Bryant is considering skipping the first game of the season if the team doesn’t sign him to a lengthier contract.

Dallas decided to slap its franchise tag on the All-Pro wide receiver in March and Bryant will make $12,823,000 this season, but he still wants to sign a long-term deal that will keep him in Dallas for the foreseeable future. The league allows teams to negotiate with players and sign a long-term deal up until July 15.

Now, you may be inclined to sit there and say “there’s no way that Dez would actually skip a game,” but according to Bryant, he’s 100 percent serious:

His agent isn’t as gung-ho, as he said declined to comment on Bryant’s threat of a holdout, only that “Our goal is still to get something done on a long-term basis by the deadline.”

While the Cowboys are trying to lock up the services of arguably the best wide receiver on earth, this is still something to keep an eye on.
