New York Mets pitcher Steven Matz had an amazing Major League debut on Sunday. He pitched a gem against the Cincinnati Reds, going 7.2 innings with five hits, three walks, two runs and six strikeouts in a winning effort. For most rookies, that would be a really great first outing, but Matz decided that he wanted to do everything in his power to make sure the Mets won.

Matz had an amazing day at the plate. He went 3-for-3 with a double and four RBI. While his OPS+ is an unsustainable 2.333, it was still one of the best debuts we’ll see out of a player in some time.

Pay special attention to his grandfather after each of his first two hits. He gave us one of the most sincere reactions you’ll ever see out of a person at a sporting event. Here he is celebrating:

If Matz’s grandpa keeps showing up to games, hopefully the Mets’ pitcher keeps getting the job done on the mound and at the place so we can see him celebrate all the time.
