Keith Olbermann Will Not Receive A New Contract With ESPN

The Keith Olbermann Era is over at ESPN, as confirmed by the network on Wednesday afternoon. Rumors about uncertainty regarding Olbermann’s re-signing were making the rounds late last week, and his chances didn’t look too good — mainly because of his opinions on certain subjects, and his usually long-winded commentaries that went along with them.

James Andrew Miller, co-author of Those Guys Have All the Fun: Inside the World of ESPN, confirmed that Olbermann would not re-up with the network, and that Olbermann would end on July 31:

ESPN Media Zone also provided a formal statement following the revelation:

“Keith is a tremendous talent who has consistently done timely, entertaining and thought-provoking work since returning to ESPN. While the show’s content was distinctive and extremely high quality, we ultimately made a business decision to move in another direction. We wish Keith nothing but the best and trust that his skill and ability will lead him to another promising endeavor.”
