For the 17th consecutive time, Serena Williams defeated her “rival” Maria Sharapova at the Wimbledon semifinal. The match was a rout, a dominating performance that’s become the norm for these two. Sharapova last beat Serena in 2004. In fact she beat her twice that year. For awhile there, everyone assumed we were headed for the next great rivalry in women’s tennis, the next Martina Navratilova-Chris Evert.

Instead it’s become something of a joke, a “where were you” when the last time Maria beat Serena. Here now is an accurate representation of the last 17 matches.

Serena now faces Garbiñe Muguruza for her 21st Grand Slam title. She may not be the G.O.A.T. but she’s certainly in the conversation.
