Aston Villa Manager Tim Sherwood Tore His Hamstring Kicking A Water Bottle

Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood was none too pleased with an official’s call in his teams 2-2 draw with Sunderland on Saturday, and he took it out on a poor water bottle on the sideline. Unfortunately for him, Sherwood got the worst of it when he tore his hamstring.

Sherwood was upset when midfielder Carles Gil was not given a penalty by the referee when he was tackled in the box. Not only did Gil not get the call, but he was also booked for diving causing Sherwood to take his frustrations out by back-heeling a water bottle, which led to his injury.

Sherwood then was forced to limp off the field after the match, but he seemed to be in a good mood when talking to reporters after the game:

“I’ve done my hamstring. I never did it as a player. I have now done it as a manager. I was going to kick the bottles forward but there were too many people so I thought I’d be polite and backheel them and snapped my hamstring. It feels bad. I must have looked like a spoiled brat. I tell my kids not to behave like that. Before today, I thought I had calmed down.”

Coaches can get caught up in the heat of the game just like players can, (just ask John Harbaugh,) so we’ll give Sherwood a pass on this one. Still, when you’re a 46-year-old manager who hasn’t played professionally in a decade, maybe think twice about those hamstrings next time a call doesn’t go your way.
