Read Jonathan Martin’s Emotional Facebook Post Revealing His Multiple Suicide Attempts

Offensive lineman Jonathan Martin was reportedly retiring from the NFL last month after a tumultuous career with the Miami Dolphins, San Fransisco 49ers and most recently, the Carolina Panthers. We all know about Martin’s involvment with the Richie Incognito fiasco — he was bullied by Incognio with insulting voicemails and text messages that would have been incredibly painful for any person to endure. But the fact that these insults that he endured were aired out to the public in November of 2013 must have been even more grueling for Martin.

On Wednesday early morning, Martin posted a lengthy status on Facebook that described the personal anguish he went through dating all the way back to when he was growing up. He went on the describe how troublesome navigating his NFL career was because of a constant feeling of being left out and inadequate inside locker rooms, and constantly struggling to gaining racial acceptance. Even more chilling was that he revealed that playing in the NFL drove him to attempt suicide “multiple times” — something Incognito actually revealed during the bullying that was made public two years ago.

The post in its entirety is below. At the end of the post, Martin suggests — in the third person, like the entire post is — that sharing this message will help others going through similar personal difficulties. One can only hope that Martin finds both peace and the help he needs.
