Watch The Amazing Feature On Alabama’s Kicker, Who Was Once An Orphan In Poland

You may not remember his name, but you definitely remember Alabama kicker Adam Griffith. When he was a redshirt freshman in 2013, Griffith was the kicker who missed the field goal which led to Auburn winning that year’s Iron Bowl in spectacular fashion.

As it turns out, Griffith has an amazing story leading up to today, which we learned in a piece that was done on him on today’s episode of College GameDay. Griffith was born in Stargard Szczeciński, Poland, under the name Andrzej Debowski. After his parents were deemed unfit to raise Griffith and his family, he was separated from them, leading to a homeless Griffith living a life that saw him smoking at age six and drinking at age 10.

Eventually, Griffith was adopted by a family in Georgia, where he was blown away by the fact that he had things like his own bedroom. Griffith learned American football and turned into one of the best kicking prospects in recent memory. He was the No. 653 prospect and No. 1 overall kicker in the country in the class of 2012 on 247 Sports, went to Alabama, and has turned into one of the top kickers in the country.

Still, Griffith couldn’t shake the connection that he still had to his home country, and over the summer he took a return trip to Poland. He brought ESPN and ushered his adopted parents around his hometown, returned to his original home, and saw his birth parents for the first time in years.

You can watch Griffith and the No. 3 Crimson Tide against No. 20 Wisconsin tonight at 8 p.m. on ABC.
