The NFL Asked Bruno Mars To Encore At The Super Bowl 50 Halftime Show

The news sounds pretty solid, as it arrives from multiple mainstream news sources. Bruno Mars, who dealt an energetic, shiny performance at Super Bowl XLVIII, has reportedly been offered the same spot for Super Bowl 50. If Mars accepts, he’ll make up both ends of a Left Shark sandwich after Katy Perry danced with human beach balls and fireworks earlier this year.

Of course, all of this news neglects the real shark in the room, which is that next year’s Super Bowl will take a hiatus from Roman numerals. The NFL was hesitant to simply call the event Super Bowl L, so they’re going with Super Bowl 50. An unorthodox choice, but that’s what the big guns want. They also want Mars to make an encore because he scored the biggest halftime show ratings to date (with a straight-up, mostly prop-free show):

For the Super Bowl’s golden anniversary, the NFL has asked a big name to return to the stage. Bruno Mars has been offered the headliner spot for the Super Bowl 50 halftime show in Santa Clara, Calif., according to sources with knowledge of the situation.

The NFL’s reps did not respond to comment, but Billboard confirms the news and goes a step further by saying Mars will also curate the show. Arguably, this program could be bigger and better since “Uptown Funk” would be an obvious centerpiece for the performance. Shall we do a little replay of the last time Bruno took the field? The boy’s got moves.
