Russell Wilson Didn’t Take The Bait When Asked About Aaron Rodgers’ God Comment

The Seahawks and Packers are embroiled in a pretty interesting rivalry right now. Seattle bested Green Bay with an improbable comeback in last year’s NFC Championship game, and then the Packers got some revenge in Green Bay last week when they beat the Seahawks, moving Seattle to 0-2 on the season.

Within the rivalry of the two teams, there appears to be some contempt brewing between star quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson, as well.

When Seattle beat Green Bay in the NFC title game last year, Wilson famously pegged God as the reason Seattle was able to come back from such a daunting fourth quarter deficit by saying, “That’s God setting it up to make it so dramatic, so rewarding, so special.”

Rodgers responded by making some comments of his own last week, which were widely perceived to be a shot at Wilson. “I get it all from God,” Rogers said. “I think God was a Packers fan tonight.”

Not one to engage in a protracted back-and-forth battle, Wilson didn’t really fan the flame any further when asked about Rodger’s comments, but he did have a little something to say about staying humble. Via Gregg Bell of The News Tribune, comes Russell’s full response:

I think in terms of that comment in all that, you know everybody has a right to their own opinion….I know one of the things that my parents always taught me is just continue to remain humble in your victories and your losses and that’s just the thing I’m grateful for, just to be able to play the game of football, and I love it. So like I said everybody is entitled to their own opinion.”

That’s probably as pointed as Wilson is ever going to get, so make of his comments what you will. Regardless, if God really does care about football, he will give us another Seahawks-Packers playoff game this year to settle the score.
