A 49ers Fan Tried To Headbutt And Spit At Security After Running Onto The Field

Running onto the field at sporting events is generally pretty dumb. Spending a night in jail and having to go to court for a few moments of looking like a jackass in front of a whole stadium of people doesn’t exactly seem ideal, but apparently that’s a matter of opinion, considering people continue to do it all the time.

But one thing is for sure — running onto the field at a sporting event and then attempting to assault and spit on security as you are being hauled away is definitely dumb as hell. That didn’t stop this 49ers fan, though!

During Sunday night’s Niners-Giants game at MetLife Stadium, a fan halted play when he hopped onto the field and ran around briefly before being taken into custody by the stadium’s security team. That’s when things got really ugly.

From NJ.com:

David Atwood, a 25-year-old from Connecticut, was charged and released at MetLife Stadium. Atwood was released to a responsible party — his mother — who was with him at the game, according to Meadowlands Station Commander Lieutenant Peter Velez. He has a court hearing on Tuesday in East Rutherford.

Atwood faces charges of:

1. Third-degree resisting arrest
2. Fourth-degree obstruction
3. Fourth-degree throwing of bodily fluids
4. Trespassing

At least one of the charges, fourth-degree obstruction, is a felony.

Hold up, this guy went to the game with his mom and ran on the field? Then got charged with a felony? That seems like it would put a damper on your mother-son sports bonding experience rather quickly.
