Football can be so intense that one little brain fart can be the difference between winning and losing sometimes.

A high-school team from Ohio found that out in heartbreaking fashion recently when they lost a tight game while celebrating a blocked field goal that should have given them the win.

The Warren G. Harding Raiders held a 14-12 lead over the Boardman Spartans with just a few seconds left on the clock as Boardman lined up for a short 29-yard potential game-winning field goal. The ball was snapped and the Raiders managed to penetrate the backfield and block the kick, which appeared to seal the victory. As you’d expect, Raiders players were pumped.

Unfortunately, in the heat of their excitement, they decided to sprint down the field in celebration as the football remained live in the field of play. Without any Raiders players in the area, one of the Spartans’ blockers showed great awareness and immediately scooped up the ball and carried it uncontested into the endzone for the game-winning touchdown.

It’s an extremely tough way to lose, but it’s also just another reason you’ve gotta keep your head in the game until the final whistle.
