Houston Coaches Are Using This Wacky Jersey Stunt To Motivate Players For The SMU Game

The Houston Cougars are undefeated thus far in the AAC and are even drawing some votes in the latest AP Poll.

Not wanting to take any chances with lowly SMU this week, head coach Tom Herman and his staff are taking up a rather unusual way of keeping their team motivated for their Thursday night contest with the Mustangs.

Yep, SMU jerseys are literally being walked all over during the week leading up to the game, as Houston coaches are taping them to the floor in areas that players have to walk through in the teams’ athletic facility.

Call me crazy, but this seems like it would add more motivation for SMU than it would for Houston. SMU is only 1-4 on the season and is a 25-point underdog, but watching their team’s uniforms literally getting stepped on has got to fire them up about as much as humanly possible.

Houston is a much better football team than SMU and will probably win the game anyway, but this just seems like a pretty bad idea and I’m not even sure exactly what message it’s supposed to send to your players.

If somehow SMU pulls off the miracle upset win and hands Houston their first loss of the season, look no further than the jersey-stomping to see why.
