The Big-Bellied Saints Fan Has The Best Reason For Flashing Everyone During That Field Goal

If you watched the New Orleans Saints take down the Dallas Cowboys last week, you probably saw Michael Gautreau. You almost certainly didn’t know Gautreau’s name, but you will never forget him for being the really big Saints fan who kept slapping his tummy with a towel while New Orleans kicker Zach Hocker knocked in a field goal.

The fine folks at Nola.com caught up with Gautreau, who is a Louisiana native that tries to attend every Saints game even though he doesn’t have season tickets. Here’s what he had to say about the clip that went viral.

“I was trying to wave that ball through! I wasn’t trying to distract our kicker, I was trying to wave it through,” Gautreau said. “That was a chip shot. I thought he was going to make it.”

“I thought it was going to be the game-winner, and I was telling the Cowboys to get in my belly!” he joked.

This isn’t something that Gautreau usually does. In fact, the inspiration for his belly slapping came from an unlikely source: Clemson coach Dabo Swinney.

“We were listening to the Clemson coach and his speech after they won about how it takes a lot of guts, and you’ve got to have guts to do this and this is a B.Y.O.G affair — bring your own guts …

“They’re always making gut jokes at me — ‘Hey, Gautreau, you bring your guts!”

Gautreau seems like a cool dude, and we hope that he becomes a mainstay at Saints games for a long time.
