Ole Miss DE Robert Nkemdiche Went Down With A Head Injury While Playing Offense

When you’ve got an athlete like Robert Nkemdiche, it’s natural to want to use him in as many ways as possible. Hugh Freeze and Ole Miss opted to use their star defensive end on offense (as they often do) in the Rebels game against Memphis on Saturday as he took a handoff on a third and one in the redzone.

Unfortunately for Freeze, it was a gamble that did not pay off as Nkemdiche not only failed to get the first down on the handoff, but he also slammed his head against the turf and was forced to leave the game.

Memphis needed four defenders to take down the 6’4, 296-pound lineman, but while taking the big man down, they caused Nkemdiche to take a pretty hard hit as his helmet slammed right against the turf as he was going to the ground.

Memphis is undefeated, and if the Rebels have to play the rest of the game without Nkemdiche to man their front seven, they could be in serious danger of an upset.

UPDATE: Ole Miss beat reporter Courtney Asher Smith is reporting that Nkemdiche is indeed out for the remainder of the game against Memphis with a concussion.
